Hiring an event photographer in Ottawa? Here's how I work.

Joy Covey, Ottawa event photographer at Just Joy Imaging

Hi, I'm Joy Covey

I photograph events for Ottawa nonprofits, charities, ministries and businesses. If you're thinking about hiring me, here's what working together looks like, from our first chat to the photos you post the next day.

Working with your coordinator

Before your event, I meet with your coordinator to go over the program: the speakers, the special guests and the moments that matter most to you. That way nothing important gets missed, and no one has to stop and tell me where to be. Plans change at events all the time. When they do, I just roll with it.

Social images within 24 hours

Within 24 hours, you'll have a set of edited photos ready to post, so you can thank your guests, volunteers and donors while everyone is still talking about it. Your full gallery comes within a week.

A calm presence in the room

I want your guests to feel comfortable, not watched. I move with the program, stay out of the way of your speakers and keep things low-key. After a while people forget I'm there, and that's when I get the best photos.

Catching moments across the room

I don't just watch the stage. I'm looking around the whole room for the laughs between friends, the volunteers joking in the back and the quiet moments during a speech. Those are the photos that show what your event really felt like.

Photos that bring people back

Good event photos show people what they missed. When your guests, donors and volunteers see how much fun it was, they're more likely to come back next year and bring a friend. That's what I mean by creating FOMO for your future events.
