I hope you had an awesome summer! I cannot believe we are already welcoming in Autumn so soon! I love this season and am so happy we are already pulling out the jackets and cute boots! It is so cozy and sweet before all the cold cold settles in but let's definitely not talk about that right now!
This summer has been a while ride! It has been a productive one but so busy! Weddings a lot of weekends, events throughout, working in construction during the week, teaching Photography at Summer Kids club and so much more. On top of all of that, I have been recovering from a head injury...
You ask, "What did you do?"
Well! Funny story really... but is it haha I kid. Here it is.
I was out sailing at the Yacht Club. We were just heading out for a race, we went to tack and I ducked the boom as it swung over. (No, this is not going where you think it is going haha I didn't have an awful blonde moment haha) From where I was sitting in the boat, I just leaned forward to miss it as it swung over, unfortunately, the cleat that holds the boom up, let go and thwack the boom and the sail came crashing down in the center of the boat and landed straight on my head!
It was just awful coincidence that my head was right there, but honestly, we fixed the sail and I knew I would have a goose egg there but was just hoping that was it. We continued to sail, I manned the Spinnaker and helped tack for the rest of the race. We came in second for our fleet and third overall! It was awesome!
Reality set in slowly once we reached the shore. I told the guys I was fine, headed off to coffee with a friend. It wasn't until the next day when I tried to go to work that I realized I was definitely concussed as I tried to go to work and couldn't because of the level of pain I was in. So off to bed I went for the week and for 6 days straight I had awful headaches and couldn't really move. There was no screen time and no social life and no work, sounds fun right! By the next week, I was feeling fine and off to the races, slowly starting back to work and feeling like life is back to normal, minus the smaller headaches.... then... I made a not so smart move that the older me (the month older me because now I know) realized was the worst decision I could have made. I went back to play soccer. I had the greatest team this summer and loved playing with them. So I did it, I suited up and hit the pitch for the greatest game of the season...and during the first half of the game, I got hit in the head with the ball and regressed my recovery all the way back to the beginning... I was out for the rest of the game and soon another week.
The day after the game, I rested and thought then I would be fine... but I was not fine, I pushed through the next week though because I was teaching a Summer Kids Club but everyone was amazingly accommodating and kind and it worked out well. But after painful headaches, dizziness and nauseau, the next week I was forced to cancel a family session that I was so looking forward to and take the week down again!
The ball hitting me in the head had to be treated like a second concussion if I wanted to ever feel better. Once I did that though, I began feeling back to normal and I happily report that I am starting to fill my social calendar back up and I have rebooked the family session for tomorrow which I am so stoked for and I am now looking forward to Autumn sessions that are about to begin!
From all of this, I just want to thank all of you for your support, whether you knew what was going on or not and to all of you that had to be rescheduled or delayed, thank you for your kindness and patience! I am so thankful for all of you!
This summer has just all been about recovery and work so now I am excited to be feeling almost normal and planning for all the wonderful things that are going to be happening this fall!
